The one below is probably my favourite. I had forgotten my normal lens and only had my super-zoom one (I say mine, all the equipment actually belongs to my brother), but I think in terms of this photo, it actually added to it; the buildings and their angles feel quite imposing and claustraphobic when you can't see the whole. There's a certain awkwardness about the composition which I'm also pleased with.

It's been scanned, so the contrast etc. might be a bit off.

First things first.

I've decided to make a blog showcasing various things I paint/make/do because I am feeling egotistical. I will also post about things that have inspired me, whatever they may be.

I have recently been delving into the paintings of a relative of mine, Edgar Hubert (Great Uncle). He was involved in the British Abstract scene of the early 20th Century, and exhibited with the younger (and more well known) artists Francis Bacon and Lucien Freud.

More information about him can be found here:

http://tinyurl.com/njwt6d

I was always struck by the paintings of his that hung in my grandparents' house, so here are some images of his work:

And my personal favourite, I like how some of the shapes and lines seem almost human:

(These are the ones I can find on the internet, I'll possibly post more in the future if I scan some in from a book...)

I've never really tried to do anything abstract (to this extent anyway), so it's an interesting avenue for me to explore see what comes of it.
